Reading for Pleasure at Deeping St Nicholas Primary School

At Deeping St Nicholas Primary School, we believe that reading for pleasure is an important part of every child's learning and development. We want all our children to discover the joy of getting lost in a good book, explore new worlds, develop their imaginations and build a lifelong love of reading.

We are delighted to have our new school library, providing a welcoming space where children can browse, discover new authors and choose books that interest and inspire them. Our library helps us to celebrate reading as something to enjoy, share and talk about.

We believe that every child should have access to books and the opportunity to read for pleasure at home. Every child has the opportunity to take a book home each week, giving them the chance to enjoy reading independently or share a story with their family. We encourage children to choose books that capture their interests, whether they enjoy stories, adventures, funny characters, information books or discovering something new.

For our Key Stage 2 children, we are also proud to offer Bookbuzz, a reading programme that encourages children to explore a wide range of books and discover authors they might not otherwise have chosen. Bookbuzz supports children in finding books they love and helps to foster a sense of excitement and ownership around reading.

Reading for pleasure is about more than learning to read; it is about developing curiosity, confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of books. Through our new library, access to books to take home and opportunities such as Bookbuzz, we aim to nurture enthusiastic readers who see reading as a rewarding and enjoyable part of everyday life.

At Deeping St Nicholas Primary School, we want every child to find a book to love, a story to share and a lifelong love of reading.
