Spring Term

Engaging with Traditional Stories
This term, our children have been immersed in the magical world of traditional stories, exploring classics such as “The Three Little Pigs,” “Hansel and Gretel,” and “The Ugly Duckling.” Through writing and performing these tales, the children have not only enhanced their literacy skills but also developed their creativity and comprehension.
To enrich this experience, we organised activities that included character analysis and creative writing exercises, allowing the children to connect personally with the stories.

Discovering Italy: A Journey Through History and Geography

This term, the children have focused on the fascinating land of Italy, where the children have delved into its rich history and geography. They explored the geographical features of Italy and the lifestyle of the ancient Romans, learning about their clothing, food, and lifestyles. A highlight of our studies was the dramatic eruption of Mount Vesuvius and its impact on the people of Pompeii.

A Special Visit from the Local Dentist

We were delighted to welcome a local dentist to Squirrels this term, who provided an engaging and informative session on dental health and hygiene. The children learned about the effects of sugar on their teeth and how to prevent dental issues through proper care. This visit was an exciting learning experience, reinforcing the importance of health education in our curriculum.
The dentist shared valuable tips, summarised in key points for clarity:

Autumn Term

This term, Squirrels Class has been immersed in the fascinating world of weather! Our young scientists have been measuring temperature and rainfall daily, which has not only sparked their curiosity but also enhanced their observational skills. Through the use of thermometers and rain gauges, the children have recorded their findings, learning to identify patterns over time.

In Maths, Squirrels Class has tackled essential concepts such as place value, addition, and subtraction through engaging practical activities. These hands-on experiences have not only made learning enjoyable but have also helped the children consolidate their understanding of these foundational skills.

This term, we have focused on developing fine motor skills through a variety of creative learning opportunities. From practising handwriting and letter formation to crafting clay models, our children have engaged in activities that enhance their dexterity and coordination.

Squirrels Class has embarked on an exciting geographical journey, learning about the seven continents and five oceans. Through songs, jigsaw puzzles, and animal identification, children have developed a sense of global citizenship and environmental awareness.

Our exploration of birds has been a highlight this term, as the children have delved into their features, habitats, and identification. Through drawing and painting, children have expressed their creativity while reinforcing their understanding of the natural world.

In History, Squirrels Class has been learning about the fascinating evolution of communication. From carrier pigeons to Morse code and telegrams, the children have explored how messages were sent in the past, gaining insight into historical context and technological advancements.

Through engaging activities, such as role-playing and creating their own messages, children have developed historical inquiry skills.

We concluded this fantastic term of learning with our wonderful Christmas play, ‘Angel Express’. The children dedicated many afternoons to rehearsing, showcasing their outstanding singing and acting skills for their families.
This performance not only highlighted the hard work and creativity of our children but also fostered confidence and teamwork.
