Teaching Assistant 1:1 (x two)

Deeping St Nicholas Primary School, Main Road, Deeping St Nicholas Spalding PE11 3DG

The Governors and Headteacher of Deeping St Nicholas Primary School are looking to recruit either one or two 1 to 1 Teaching Assistants to start as soon as possible. This role is for the purpose of assisting with the special needs of two children whilst they require assistance at Deeping St Nicholas Primary School.  The event that will bring these contracts to an end will be the decision that assistance is no longer required by either of the children; or as a result of either child leaving the school; at which time appropriate notice will be given.

Salary: Grade 3, Point 6 (£18,065 pa, pro- rata) pay award pending 

Hours: 10 Hours per week per pupil - term time only, fixed term contract

To enable the pupils to become more independent, the Teaching Assistant will assist the class teacher with KS1 pupils in the progression of language skills, including oracy and phonics and support children during teacher instruction etc.

We are a friendly school, located on the main A1175 in Deeping St Nicholas

We currently have 60 children on roll. 

Experience of working within a school is essential, along with knowledge of phonics, an understanding of oracy and perhaps Elklan Training. You’ll also need a good standard of education particularly English and good communication skills both oral and written.

You must be patient, calm and enthusiastic, committed to ensuring that children make good progress and have the ability to foster an excellent working relationship with our children. You should be adaptable, able to think on your feet, be a good team player and able to work well as part of a supportive staff.

Job role:

  • Support the pupils with their learning activities, attending to any additional learning needs, and helping with their development;
  • Help with the general care and support of pupils within the school;
  • Contribute to the health and well-being of pupils within the school;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups;
  • Be an effective model for pupil behaviour.

Support for the teacher

  • Help with classroom resources and the keeping of relevant records;
  • Contribute to the management of pupils' behaviour, both in the classroom and on the
  • playground, as required;
  • Support the school curriculum;
  • Provide support for learning activities;
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for pupils and staff;
  • Support teaching staff or senior colleagues with routine administration.

Support for the school

  • Monitor effective working relationships with colleagues and parents;
  • Contribute to the maintenance of pupils' safety and security;
  • Review and develop their own professional practice;
  • Recognise confidentiality, child protection procedures, Health &Safety, and the policies of the Governing Body and the LEA.
