Mrs Sandalls - Muntjac(Year 5 & Year 6)

Year 5 and 6

Term 1

It is great to see everyone back and to welcome year 5 children into Muntjac class. We are particularly proud of all the work that has been carried out during the summer holidays which means we now have freshly painted walls and a brand new carpet.

Our topic for this term is aspects of World War I and World War II which we will be studying using photos, films and artefacts. Information from families is also welcome.

During Literacy we will cover areas of grammar and punctuation, as well as developing writing both fiction and non-fiction. We have started by reading parts of "Goodnight Mister Tom" by Michelle Magorian which is proving a great favourite.

In Numeracy we will focus on place value of numbers including rounding and negative numbers as well as the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Science will cover a unit about light - sources, reflection and refraction.

We would ask if you could encourage your child to continue to read at home. We have just received some new books which the children are very excited about. These will replace old well-read books on the class shelves. Our class reader this term is "The Emergency Zoo" by Miriam Halahmy, which is a story set in World War II and loosely based on real events.

P.E. kits need to brought into school at the start of the week and left until Friday. All P.E lessons will take place outside and we may need to change days if the weather is unsuitable.

Finally welcome back!
